Makepeace Island on The Noosa River was purchased for around $3 million almost eight years ago by Richard Branson to build a resort for a staff retreat. It has taken that long to almost finish the lavish resort after a series of setbacks.

Now that it is taking shape the locals and visitors alike want to see a glimpse of the high flying Virgin Airline chief’s lavish lifestyle. Boats are stopping to see the progress and maybe get to see the MAN HIMSELF!

The Island has been remodeled to accommodate up to 20 guests. There is a pool with bridge and water features with huge stone statues throughout, a tennis court and three large central Balinese style villas with thatched roofs.

The old shed on the water’s edge that was used by the artist that lived on the island still remains and has been given a face lift, keeping the Islands history intact. Tourists continue to stare, but probably never get a chance to actually set foot on Makepeace Island on the Noosa River.

You can’t stay on the Island, but we have a great selection of luxury Noosa hotels that you CAN stay at.
